Our sugar maple tree continues to go through seasonal changes as we check it for winter.  Just like last year, all of the leaves have fallen off and students record this aspect in their observations.  This year’s class was interested in seeing where the leaves went, so we dug down into the snow to find the sugar maple leaves under the tree.  As you can see, they recorded this in their journal entries.

Again since this is the second year of data collection, we were able to compare and contrast last year’s whole sugar maple tree to this year’s sugar maple tree through the photographs.  The photographs were taken on the same date for each year.  As you can see from the photographs, the leaves have all fallen off again this year.  And, there is a little more snow on the ground this year under the sugar maple tree.
